YouTube Niche with LOW competition and HIGH paying - How to study your niche

I was roaming around on my YouTube feed and stumbled upon one video named “Low Competition and Highest Paying Niche”. And I was baffled by seeing the number of views that video got (I would just say it was in the multimillions). And this is the biggest problem with new YouTube creators. Yes, I am being pretty straightforward but not exaggerating a bit. The wrong philosophy behind selecting your niche is one of the biggest problems with new YouTubers which suffocates their growth and demotivates them.
I am writing this article to prevent YOU from doing the same mistake. So stay tuned with me. In this article, I am going to compare the common/wrong way to select/study a niche, which generally people go for, with the right way.
What is a niche?
Niche is the group of audience that would be interested in watching the kind of videos you make.
Common/Wrong way:
First, the newbies go to Google and search one of these keywords: “What are the low competition niche on YouTube in the year 2023” or “What are the highest paying niches…” or something similar.
Based on the result they find from some so-called YouTube experts, they decide what should they create videos on.
What is the mistake here?
In search of low competitive and high paying niche, what the creators ignore is even more important to be successful on YouTube:
What do you like to create, and
What you are good at.
Believe me or not, this is a fact. Take the example of EVERY successful YouTuber in the world. They all are passionate about what they are doing. They did not start their channel by seeing demand in the market. Instead, they selected their niche by themself, based on what they like to do. And that is the key factor for being successful.
Low competition and High Paying Niche are just MYTHS?
NO. They are not a myth. There are niches. They all have some level of competition and some level of paying criteria. So there would definitely be some niches that are lesser in competition and higher in payment. What I am trying to explain here is that it should not be a selection criterion for what to make videos on.
You should not go on the internet to find the topic for your channel. You decide what is your niche based on what you like to do. But still, if you can not decide what is your niche/topic for a new YouTube channel I have written this blog on a 3-step process for Topic Selection of your channel.
Purpose of studying your Niche
The purpose of studying your niche is not topic selection. The step to study and analyze your niche comes after the topic selection process, not before. Then why do we need to study our niche? And how to do it?
The real purpose of studying niche is to decide what to make videos on “WITHING YOUR NICHE”. After you select the main topic of your channel (which shouldn’t be done by studying competition and payment level), you should decide what kind of videos you make within your niche.
Conclusion:
To study a niche is nothing but studying your audience. When some famous YouTubers say “Study niche before you make a video”, keep in mind they DO NOT mean “before making a channel”.
Studying your niche may include:
What is their age range?
Is there any specific gender?
Where are they from?
What is their income range?
Which other creators do they watch?
What can be their interest outside of YouTube?
What is their education status?
Many more things
In the beginning, you might not have this data accurately. But as you keep making videos and you start getting some views, YouTube will give all this data in YouTube analytics. And after studying your niche properly what you need to do is to keep them in mind while making a video. You are not supposed to change the topic of your channel based on this. All you need to do is make the same videos in such a manner that your niche/audience like it.
