Before starting your YouTube channel, it's important to understand the skills and resources/equipment required to run it effectively. YouTube primarily revolves around video creation, so having the right skills and equipment is crucial. Here are the essential skills required for video creation. Prior to launching your channel, it's essential to ensure that you have access to these skills. It's not necessary to possess all of them yourself—you can borrow or hire them. The key is to have these skills readily available when needed for your channel's success.
Essential/mandatory skills required to start a YouTube channel
Scripting:
Accept it right away or realize it after many years of failure and frustration: “Scripting is an essential part of video creation.” This is the first thing you will require to start a YouTube channel. Having a good script helps you structure and organize your content, and gives you clarity about the integrity of the video in advance, and shrinks the duration of your shooting & editing process significantly.

This is a skill you can not learn overnight. If you have any friend who can help you or you are ready to spend money for this service well and good. But if you have no other option than doing it yourself, no need to delay launching your channel for this. Start your channel and keep learning how to be better and better at scripting your videos along with your journey.
Basics of Cinematography:
This will be required in channels that would include video shooting. You can learn the basics of cinematography in significantly less time. And since you are going to be with the camera, it is better to learn this skill by yourself. You can easily find tons and tons of tutorial videos on YouTube itself.

Video editing:
There are in total 3 different kinds of editing you will need to run a YouTube channel: 1. Video editing, 2. Audio editing and 3. Image editing (for thumbnails). Editing skills will be required in almost every channel. Before you start your channel, you need to ensure someone is there who has enough skill in video editing in your team. It can definitely be you. If you already have video editing skills, great! But if you haven’t before starting a channel you must consider learning a basic of video editing first. Recently it is also possible in smartphone and so it doesn’t matter if you do not have a computer. You can use free apps like VN.
But if you are getting help in editing from a friend or if you have a budget to hire an editor, you can start the channel right away. (Of course, after ensuring the remaining points in this article 😅.)

SEO:
This is also one of the most mandatory skills that any kind of YouTuber needs. But do not be too hasty about it. SEO is important but not as much as it's hyped. YouTube itself is trying to eliminate the need for SEO using AI. But it will take several years. Till then, you must have the SEO skill set in your channel's premise. Honestly speaking, no matter what people are saying about SEO, YouTube SEO is not that difficult. Don't delay publishing your channel for this skill. Just make sure, you dedicate a day to learning YouTube SEO and then keep learning more as you go ahead on your YouTube journey.
Other:
There are so many other skills too, that you should consider based on the requirement of your channel like voice-over, animation, music, dancing, acting, and many many more. The list is endless. It may vary from channel to channel. You do not need to be an expert or have an expert in all of them. Before you start a new channel, make a list of all the skills you are going to need to run your channel successfully.
