Ready to start your own YouTube channel but stuck on what topic/niche to choose? Running out of ideas? You're not alone! I've done some digging on this question and it turns out that almost every YouTube guru recommends considering three key factors when deciding what to make videos about. So, to learn how to select a youtube channel topic-ideas, let's dive into each of these factors one by one and figure out:
YouTube channel topic-ideas-niche selection depends on
1. What are you good at?
The second most important factor is, what you can do. (I will talk about the most important factor in the 3rd point.)
Assume you have decided to make a cooking channel, but you don't know how to cook 😂. Talent is the second most important factor after... (I will tell in the 3rd point 😁)
What to do?
Make a list of the top 10 skill sets you have. Consider as broad skill as possible so that you have enough space to be flexible.
For example, instead of considering "Microsoft Excel" as a skill, consider "Calculation and Analysis".
Now, even if you are good at something, it doesn't mean you would be liking it. That brings me to the next factor:
2. What do you like?
It is not necessary that you must like what you are good at. There are many skills a person can have by birth that he doesn't admire as much as he loves his other skills.
And believe me, it matters what you like to do. YouTube is a platform built on honesty, engagement, and personal touch. Every single successful YouTuber throughout the platform is passionate about whatever they are doing. If there wouldn't be passionate, they wouldn't be successful.
The main benefit of being a YouTuber (even bigger than money) is the freedom to work in your favorite field. If you open a YouTube channel on a topic that you are not crazy about, sooner or letter will turn out to be the typical 9 to 5 job.
What to do?
Out of that 10 skill sets filter out the top 5-6 which you love to work in. And consider them for the next factor.
But even after ensuring your talent and liking, you will not get enough subscribers and views if the audience would like your content does not exists. That brings me to the 3rd and last factor:

3. What do people like?
No matter much effort you put into your content, it will mean nothing if there is no audience for your videos. The most important thing to consider before selecting a new topic is whether there is enough audience or not. If your topic has no demand in the market, you are not going to get views anyways.
What to do?
Check the similar content on YouTube. How many views have they got? How many subscribers do they have? Using tools like VidIQ, you can do a detailed study analysis on other channels.
In short, for the pre-existing topics, you need to check for their demand, and for new ideas just ignore this factor
Exception: THIS factor does not apply if your idea is unique. If you have an idea that is 100% original and there are no similar channels on YouTube, you would have no data to analyze. You can not be sure whether people will love it or not because they would not have seen anything like that before. If you have such an idea with gut feelings that it will be loved by many, you should definitely give it a try.
